Julia Marley
Professor Julia Marley is a Senior Principal Research Fellow with the Rural Clinical School of WA (RCSWA), The University of WA (UWA) based in Broome. Over the past 19 years Professor Marley has developed a wide range of productive collaborative research projects with over 30 health care services and other academic institutions. This involves engaging diverse Aboriginal communities with the health issues that they feel are most important, translating findings to contribute to improved health, and building a rurally based, broadly skilled health researcher workforce. Including end-users (community members and health services) as part of the research team facilitates translation of her team’s findings into changes at a community level, service level and in policy. Her projects include improving screening for diseases by trialling and then implementing new screening protocols; improving the quality of preventive health programs by trialling new programs and evaluating their effectiveness; and improving the quality of primary healthcare by evaluating health services.
